This course will attempt to answer the question Bob Dole asked in his eulogy: why was Richard Nixon the most enduring political figure of the twentieth century? This course will also move beyond Richard Nixon and Watergate to explore his life and career while attempting to answer other important questions: does Richard Nixon deserve a place among the great American presidents as a foreign policy architect of peace and a domestic progressive and pioneer?
