Thesis Courses
Independent study courses for thesis research
A thesis course is an independent research course in which you conduct your thesis project research, guided by your Thesis Director. There are three different approaches to thesis course enrollment. Some majors require the use of an departmental Honors thesis course or a departmental independent study course with an Honors Option. Others require or allow the use of HNRS 4000 Thesis. Two semesters of thesis enrollment are required for College Honors. Consult individual Upper Division Honors Distinction program documents for your major or ask the Honors Upper Division Adviser to know which course to schedule.
You may not register yourself for a thesis course, as a section is specially created with your Thesis Director. Request enrollment in HNRS 4000 via an email to the Upper Division adviser, and request enrollment in department thesis courses through that department.
Once enrolled in the thesis course, you should work out a schedule and location to meet periodically with your Thesis Director. It is also helpful to work out a project timeline and to set clear expectations of progress for the semester. To some degree, perhaps even a large degree, it will be your responsibility to manage the pace of the project and communication with your Thesis Director about its direction and challenges.
