Volunteers Needed

The Every Voice Voter Registration Drive commemorates the courageous young people and community leaders who came together in the summer of 1964—Freedom Summer—to register voters during a pivotal Civil Rights struggle in the South. At Honors College Convocation, Freedom Summer author Bruce Watson urged the LSU community to remember E. M. Forster's response to the divisions within society by repeating the phrase, "only connect."

Between Sept. 3 and Sept. 19, Honors College student volunteers will connect with their most proximal communities  by registering voters on the LSU Campus, in Old South Baton Rouge, and at high schools near the LSU campus. Volunteers will staff table-sits at these locations during various times preceding the Sept. 21 deadline to register for the Louisiana Gubernatorial Election (see below for the list of registration sites and times).

Prior to working at the registration sites, all volunteers must attend a training session. One hour sessions will be held on the evenings of August 29th, 30th, and 31st. To register for training, visit the Every Voice Training Registration page. During the training session, volunteers will learn about the voter registration process and sign-up for specific voter registration sites and times.

At the conclusion of the Every Voice registration efforts, all volunteers will gather at the LSU Faculty Club on Wednesday, September 21, for an evening of food, reflection, freedom songs performed by the LSU Gospel Choir, and addresses from the Old South Baton Rouge community partners involved in the project.

Every Voice is sponsored by the LSU Honors College and Campus Federal Credit Union.
