Honors Shared Reading Book
<span">Dave Eggers' Zeitoun
Each year the Honors College selects a book for its Shared Reading Program. This year we have chosen Zeitoun and invited author Dave Eggers to address all Honors College students at the Honors College Convocation on Wednesday, August 25 at 7 PM in the LSU Union Ballroom. First-year Honors College students will use Zeitoun in Honors 2000.
The intent of the Honors Shared Reading is to give new Honors students a common experience and to introduce them to the culture of the Honors College, which emphasizes LSU's "Commitment to Community" and the College's commitment to fostering scholars who will strive to solve our state's and nation's most serious problems. Returning Honors College students and LSU faculty and staff are also invited to read the book.
Zeitoun is Eggers' true-life account of a New Orleans couple named Abdulrahman and Kathy Zeitoun. Mr. Zeitoun, who stays in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina to protect his business, is mistakenly arrested and imprisoned. Timothy Egan, in The New York Times Book Review, calls Zeitoun "the stuff of great narrative nonfiction."
This event is sponsored by the Honors College.
