As service is the theme for your first year in the Honors College, all incoming Honors students will participate in a day of service fixing up local public schools and other community sites. You will be redirected to the Community Bound registration page after signing up for Honors Welcome below. Registration for Community Bound is required; registration for Leap into Leadership is optional.
Wednesday, August 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the LSU Student Union Ballroom
To launch the academic year, Bruce Watson, author of Freedom Summer, will welcome the Honors College Class of 2015 to LSU. You are expected to purchase and read Freedom Summer before you arrive in August. The book documents the experiences of college-aged volunteers who partnered with grassroots advocates to bring voter registration drives and educational initiatives to segregated Mississippi during the summer of 1964. The book touches on many topics that still resonate within society today; we hope this sparks the type of vibrant conversations that are fundamental to the Honors Experience at LSU.
If you plan to participate in Fraternity or Sorority Recruitment or Tiger Band please be sure to check the appropriate boxes when you register for Honors Welcome and take note of the related details.
