Ogden Honors students are encouraged to expand their worldview by studying abroad during their time at LSU. Whether for a year, a semester, or a summer, the experience of living abroad as an undergraduate allows students to expand their perspective, place themselves in a global context, and develop personal independence.
We assist students in participating in study abroad in a number of ways. First, our Honors advising team includes a study abroad adviser who can help students explore, select, and apply for abroad programs. Advisers can also assist students with questions they may have about transfer of credit from an abroad program back to LSU. The Honors College also hosts an annual study abroad fair in the fall semester. This fair showcases information on the more than twenty summer abroad programs offered by LSU.
Second, we offer Honors College scholarships to assist students in covering the cost of study abroad. Our advisers can also provide students with information on the wide variety of study abroad scholarships available outside the Honors College.
Third, the Ogden Honors College leads its own study abroad program each summer. In years past, this program has taken Honors students to China, South Africa, and Cuba. The program is lead by an LSU faculty member and an Honors College staff member, and typically combines Honors coursework with community service, language immersion, and excursions throughout the host country.
