In conjunction with LSU Best Buddies, the Honors College Student Council (HCSC) recently held a softball tournament at the BREC park on Highland Road.

Best Buddies is an organization dedicated to assisting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by fostering one-on-one friendships with mentors.

The event, which ran from 1-4 p.m., paired the members of Best Buddies with HCSC students.

“They loved it — they were having the time of their life," said Elisabeth Parent, an Honors international studies and political science junior. "Scott Letley, the president of Best Buddies at LSU, helped us to organize the event … Everyone had a really great time.”

Parent, who serves as Vice President for HCSC, said that the Council does a service project each year and that the softball game was a way to interact with other members of the Baton Rouge community.

“Last semester we did a cemetery clean up on Halloween, but this semester we decided we wanted to do something more people-oriented...” she said. “I hope to do it again in the future.”
