Three LSU Students Earn Gilman International Scholarships

Scholarship encourages students to study aboard

Three LSU Ogden Honors College students were selected for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study or intern abroad.

The Gilman is a competitive scholarship awarded three times a year by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education

The scholarship is named after former Congressman Benjamin A. Gilman of New York and encourages historically underrepresented students to study or intern abroad.

Students may receive up to $5,000 and scholars studying a language are also eligible for an additional $3,000 through the Critical Need Language Award.

LSU students receiving the award are as follows:

  • Luke Anthony Dupré, first-year student studying History, Liberal Arts, Political Science at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Dupré will be joining the LSU in Paris program.
  • Alexandra Haynes, fourth-year student studying Agricultural Education at the College of Agriculture. Haynes will be going to Thailand with the LSU in Thailand program.
  • Todd John Thibodaux, first-year student studying microbiology at the University College. Thibodaux will be going to the UK with Ogden and LSU in Edinburgh and London.
