Honors Program
Academics are at the heart of the Honors experience. The LSU Honors College curriculum is designed to provide outstanding and motivated students with the opportunity to challenge themselves academically and to stretch their intellect. The Honors experience provides classes and faculty supervision that allow our students to delve as deeply into any subject as they wish.
Honors students take at least two Honors courses per academic year and maintain a 3.0 gpa. They may take courses from the following categories:
Honors College Courses
These classes are listed under the Honors (HNRS) prefix in the General Catalog and Schedule
of Classes. They are offered directly through the Honors College.
Honors Departmental Courses
These classes are offered through academic departments under departmental prefixes with “Honors” noted
in the title of the class. Example: English 1003 Honors: English Composition.
Honors Options
Students can also gain Honors credit in a non-Honors course (3000 level and above) by completing work agreed upon with
the course instructor.
In their senior year, Honors students complete a thesis or senior project. In this project, students apply undergraduate education to an in-depth research problem with the potential for postgraduate application and that can be completed in a range of disciplines.
