Admission Requirements

Freshmen entering Louisiana State University are eligible to apply to the Honors College if they meet the following recommended admission criteria:

• Academic high school GPA: 3.50 (weighted by LSU)
• Recommended ACT: 30 Composite with 30 English, or 29 Composite with 31 English

• Recommended SAT: 1320 Critical Reading + Mathematics (combined) with 660 Critical Reading
• Completed SAT or ACT essay
  
  

Honors College admission is very competitive.  Selection for incoming first-year students is based on high school GPA, ACT or SAT scores, and the writing test of the ACT or SAT. The writing sample is weighed on an even scale with GPA and standardized exam scores, so special consideration should be given to this component of the application. The strength of courses taken in high school will be considered and is factored into the calculation of the high school GPA by the Office of Undergraduate Admission and Student Aid.

How to Apply

Students interested in becoming members of the Honors College should first apply for admission to Louisiana State University.  A portion of the application for LSU admission serves as the application for Honors College admission; there is no separate application process.  New freshmen students must be admitted to LSU before their admission to the Honors College will be considered.  Honors College admission consideration is separate from that of LSU admission and for entering freshman scholarships.

Students who have already completed the Application for Undergraduate Admission, but did not indicate the option for Honors College admission consideration, may amend their applications by contacting the Office of Undergraduate Admissions & Student Aid (admissions@lsu.edu | 225/578-1175).

Admissions Timeline

The deadline to apply and be considered for the Honors College is November 15.  Applications will be reviewed only after the November 15 application deadline.  Students will be notified of their admission status beginning in mid-December.

Students are strongly encouraged to apply by the November 15 deadline.  Any applications received after this date will be reviewed on a space-available basis.
