272 Slaves: Discovering Louisiana's (and Georgetown's) Past
Roger Hadfield Ogden Dean Jonathan Earle Ogden Honors College
Throughout the semester, we will read widely of the history of slavery in the United States, the internal slave trade, and historical memory. A special focus will be the Louisiana descendants of a group of slaves sold by Georgetown University in 1838. The course will consist of common readings and Skyped meetings with a parallel class from Georgetown. During Georgetown’s spring break, both LSU and Georgetown students will gather for tours of southern Louisiana. We will complete a final project with oral history interviews of the descendants.
