Set in 1957, The Battle of Algiers depicts Algeria’s struggle for independence from France.  Shot in the streets of Algiers in documentary style, the film vividly re-creates the violent Algerian uprising against the occupying French.  Michael Pitre, the author of Fives and Twenty-Fives has said, “It’s the best depiction of counter-insurgency warfare ever filmed.  Some of its scenes are eerily reminiscent of things I witnessed in Iraq in 2006.”

While this film is offered as part of HNRS 2000, other Ogden students are welcome to attend.
