Mark Hertsgaard, the author of Hot: Living Through the Next Fifty Years on Earth, the Honors College Shared Read book, will address Honors College students and interested members of the LSU Community.

The Shared Read gives Honors students a common experience, which emphasizes the College's commitment to fostering scholars who will strive to solve our state's and nation's most serious problems.  LSU faculty and staff are also invited to read the book and attend this event.

As an independent journalist, Mark Hertsgaard has reported from twenty-five countries about politics, world affairs, culture, and environmental issues for leading print and broadcast outlets worldwide, including The New York Times, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Mother Jones, Grist, Salon, The Nation, National Public Radio, the BBC, The Independent, Le Monde Diplomatique, Die Zeit, and L’espresso.

Hertsgaard is the environment correspondent for The Nation, a regular columnist for the Italian newsweekly, L’espresso, and a Fellow at the New America Foundation.  He has been a commentator for the public radio programs Morning Edition, Living on Earth, and Marketplace, and hosted a weekly investigative news program for the national satellite channel Link TV.

His other books include Earth Odyssey: Around the World In Search of Our Environmental Future; On Bended Knee:  The Press and the Reagan Presidency; and A Day in the Life:  The Music and Artistry of the Beatles.

A book signing will follow Hertsgaard's address.
