December 17, 2014, was a day of celebration on both sides of the Florida Straits; President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro announced plans to reestablish diplomatic relations between Cuba and the U.S. after more than 50 years of impasse.

In this talk, Henry Heredia, Director of International Programs at the Juan Marinello Cuban Institute for Cultural Research in Havana, Cuba, discusses how perceptions of Cuba held by U.S. Americans and perceptions of the U.S. held by Cubans have been transforming through cultural exchange in educational programs, tourism, and the recent changes in foreign policy heading towards the normalization of relations.
