As part of Honors 2000, the Honors College faculty is screening four films about the First World War. The first installment of the series—My Boy Jack—explores the relationship between Rudyard Kipling and his son Jack, who was killed at the Battle of Loos in September 1915 while serving with the British Army in France. Based on the 1997 play by David Haig, My Boy Jack explores Kipling’s jingoism and his desire to have his son fight “the Hun,” despite Jack’s rejection by the Royal Navy and, initially, the Royal Army because of poor eyesight. The film features performances by Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame, Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City), and Carey Mulligan (Drive, The Great Gatsby).
