Dr. John Vanchiere, MD, PhD, and Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the LSU Heath Sciences Center in Shreveport, will give a presentation on the MD/PhD. dual degree career track. Dr. Vanchiere will discuss how you can pursue this dual degree; ways in which it can be applied to careers in basic, translational, and clinical medicine; the thrill of biomedical research and the challenges of securing grant funding; and the role of physician-scientists in bridging the gap between medicine and research. He'll share insider tips on applying to MD/PhD programs and take your questions.
Dr. Vanchiere is native of Louisiana who received his BA from Tulane University in 1988. He received an MD/PhD from Emory University in 1996 and pursued his residency at Baylor College of Medicine, after which he returned to Louisiana to work in pediatric infectious diseases at LSU Health Shreveport.
