Honors College Staff

Dr. Nancy L. Clark, Dean of the Honors College. Dean Clark has overall responsibility for the operation of the Honors College and finds no student concern too small! This will be her fourth year at LSU and she is eager to meet all new and returning students. Dr. Clark has taught history for 15 years and founded the Honors Program at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. She received a B.A. and an M.A. from UCLA and her Ph.D in history from Yale. [nclark@lsu.edu]

Dr. Ann Sumner Holmes, Associate Dean, balances many roles in the Honors College: she advises honors students, coordinates the honors faculty, and is on teaching teams for both the Classical Civilization course and the Roman and Medieval Civilization course. In addition, Dr. Holmes is the faculty adviser for the Honors College Student Council. Dr. Holmes received her B.A. from Millsaps College, her M.A. from Tulane University, and her Ph.D. in history from Vanderbilt University. [aholmes@lsu.edu]

Dr. Granger Babcock, Associate Dean, received his B.A. from Hamilton College and his Ph.D. from LSU. He has taught at LSU, LSU-Alexandria, the University of St. Thomas, and the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts. More recently, he has served as Assistant to the Dean in LSU’s University College and Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Student Life and Academic Services.  [fbabco1@lsu.edu]

Tia Embaugh, Director of External Relations, oversees communications, public affairs and fund development for the Honors College.  She has worked in external relations for nearly 10 years, with experience in both the private and non-profit industries before coming to LSU.  Tia received a B.A. in Architecture here at LSU in 1996.  [tembaugh@lsu.edu]

Dr. Drew Lamonica Arms, Director of Fellowship Advising at the Honors College. Her office recruits and assists those students interested in pursuing prestigious post-graduate scholarships and fellowships, such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Gates Cambridge, Mitchell, Truman, Mellon, and Goldwater. Dr. Arms and Mr. Blandino coordinate informational sessions, writing workshops and mock interviews, and meet individually with students to prepare them for the rigorous application and interview processes associated with these scholarships. Dr. Arms is also an instructor in the Honors College. She received her B.A. from LSU in English and history and her M.St. and D.Phil. from the University of Oxford. [dlamoni@lsu.edu]

Virginia Bell, Assistant to the Dean, joined the Honors College from the Honors Program at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, California. In addition to assisting the dean and serving as the Honors College business manager, Virginia coordinates the activities of the Honors College student workers and manages French House room usage. Michael Blandino, Coordinator of Student Services, oversees the advising operation, assists students in the Upper Division of the program, helps out with postgraduate fellowship applicants, and is available to talk with any honors student. In addition to advising, he tracks data for the college and fulfills its IT needs. As a student in the Honors College, he graduated from LSU with a B.A. in Philosophy - Religious Studies, and again with a Master of Music in Music Theory. [mblandi@lsu.edu]

Mark Dochterman, Student Activities Coordinator.  Doc (as he prefers to be called) works with the Honors College Affiliated Student Organizations to coordinate events that promote the goals of the Honors College. He oversees the Student Organization Council, helps plan and implement orientation for incoming students, organizes the freshman service project, and helps student organizations establish and maintain their web presence. He received his B.A. from Illinois College, his M.A. from Ball State University, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate at LSU. Sherry Gauthier, External Relations Coordinator, serves as a research analyst for the Honors College, specializing in alumni relations and annual giving.  A Baton Rouge native, Sherry has worked in the external relations field for over a decade.  [sgauthier@lsu.edu]

Jeremy Joiner, Academic Adviser for students in the Honors College.  Though he works primarily with first and second year students, he'd be more than glad to help any student with a scheduling matter.  In addition to advising students, Jeremy works with the admissions process and coordinates orientation activities and recruiting events for the Honors College.  He also serves as staff adviser to the Honors College Advocates.  Jeremy received dual B.S. degrees in Psychology and Microbiology from LSU and was a member of the Honors College. Autumn Montgomery, Academic Adviser for students in the Honors College.   Autumn is the Upper Division adviser and will also serve as Fellowship Coordinator, working with Dr. Drew Lamonica Arms.  She will assist Upper Division students with their course selections, enhance the Honors Thesis Colloquium and inform students of fellowship deadlines.  Autumn was an honors student and received her B.A. from the University of New Orleans for Drama and Communications with a concentration in film.  She worked in the film industry and has credits on seven films, including Glory Road and Premonition. Cindy Seghers, Coordinator of Experiential Learning advises students in seeking and obtaining internships, cooperative education opportunities and volunteer/community service experiences. She also develops new experiential opportunities and maintains current ones locally, regionally and nationally. Cindy received a B.A. from Northwestern State University and a Master of Social Work from LSU. Prior to joining the Honors College staff, Cindy worked in the LSU Career Services Experiential Education office. Her other experience includes volunteer program management with Volunteers In Public Schools, medical and psychiatric social work, and program development with state and governmental agencies. She is a board member of Directors of Volunteers In Agencies, the LA Delta Service Corps/AmeriCorps, and Health Care Centers in Schools Advisory Committee, and a graduate of the 2003 Chamber Leadership Class.[cseghers@lsu.edu]

William Osborne, Academic Coordinator , assists in curriculum development, advising, and the creation and implementation of service-learning projects for the Honors College. He has taught elementary, junior high, and high school art as well as drawing, course development , and philosophy at the university level . He has also worked in reference and information services in the public library system . Mr. Osborne holds a BA in art from Millsaps College, an MFA in painting and an MA in philosophy from LSU.
